Disturbing Video of the Week - Schwar-chan

Ladies and Gents, the Governor of California …

Hey all! I wanted to post something to break up the series of guides and tutorials we have been doing lately. While those types of guides are great and we really enjoy writing them I have had some friends of mine, that read the blog mention how they would like to see something different from time to time. Aside from Linux tutorials, and “How To” guides.

So taking their good advice, I have decided to post a video this week in response to their feedback.

This is a video I came across several years ago, that disturbed me beyond belief. Unlike other sites I am not going to post some gross video, or a “screamer” clip. This is just a truly disturbing video to me.

I have a nightmare like the “Wizard of Oz” where I am in a house that’s twirling around in tornado and when I look out the bedroom window instead of seeing the Wicked Witch I see this instead. Man that “old time” bicycle is creepy… *shudders* hehe

Watch Movies Online & Streaming TV Shows on Your PC

Streaming Video Websites – Watch TV and Movies on Your PC

Today I want to talk a little about streaming video. Streaming video is becoming more and more popular among websites in the past few years. The more bandwidth that becomes available to websites the more sites start offering services that enable you to watch TV and movies right on your PC.

If you read this article, I will be posting a great resource for streaming TV and movies on the internet. There are many streaming websites out there, but I want to link one of my favorites to give people a good place to start.

The site I am referring to is called VEOH. VEOH is a great website that focuses mainly on streaming video and movies. It is a website that is setup like MySpace, allowing users to create their own profiles and interact in web 2.0 community that revolves around online videos.

VEOH currently has thousands of users which creates a nice community feel where you can create friend lists based of what types of movies or videos memebers are uploading. Another really nice feature of VEOH is their VeohTV software that handles all the multimedia content you download from their site.

VeohTV is like the iTunes of video. When you are on the VEOH website and you find a video or movie you like, you can queue it up into the VeohTV software and the program will download the content to your hard drive. Say you are watching a TV Show that you really like and instead of just streaming the video you would like to copy it to your hard drive so you can burn it to DVD and watch it on your home entertainment system or media PC.

You can click on a link that will tell VeohTV to download this content and that way you can archive any TV shows or movies you would like to add to your media collection. On top of downloading movies and TV shows VeohTV will also manage your library of videos allowing you to easily find the content you are looking for. It will display each video with a thumbnail of what that video is about.

VeohTV even has Tivo like functions that can make video recommendations and allow you to subscribe to other users video streams so your computer will automatically download all the latest videos a user posts without the need to constantly queue up videos for download.

VEOH is just one of many streaming movie and TV websites on the internet. You can find numerous resources out there just by searching through Google or using the links I provide in my articles. As the internet grows bigger and more powerful we will see thousands of streaming video websites become available.

Sites like YouTube, VEOH and Hulu are good examples of commercial sites that are springing up offering streaming movies and TV to their users. Make the most of these services and you can save yourself a fortune on expensive cable services that were overpriced to begin with. These sites offer free streaming video to their users and provide a great sense of community making them the ideal places to go for online video content.

To get started you should check out my favorite site VEOH, which can be found at the following link:

http://www.veoh.com/

This is a great place to get started with streaming video and also a great place to meet new friends that are video enthusiasts. I have met a ton of great people here with a lot of common interests.

Some other good resources for streaming media are:

I hope you enjoyed this article, and get as much use out of VEOH as I have. Keep in mind there are hundreds of streaming video websites out there, and now that you have read this article you are off to a good start. Checkout the other links I provide for great resources for streaming video, TV shows, and other great sites online.

Watch Family Guy Episodes Online

You want me to whack a guy? You want me to off a guy?

I’m so tired! I really need to plan out all my work better from now on. I spent the whole day doing web / SEO projects at work without really taking a break. I just felt like I was getting so much done that I should keep going while I was on a role.

Then when I got home I had to mow the back yard. I had put off doing this yesterday because I did the front yard late in the day and still had errands to run. Well after I finished mowing I decided I should try out my new Black and Decker weed whacker… This got way out of hand.

I was finally able to trim all the long grass around the fence and sides of the house. I actually got a little carried away and started weed whacking my way through a garden that was over grown with grass and dandelions. The neighbors must have thought I was crazy standing in the middle of a garden bed with green crap flying up in the air and mulch chips whizzing by.

Well after I came inside I realized I had over done it. I hopped in the shower to rinse off and realized I could hardly lift my left arm. Between mowing the insane hill in my backyard and weed whacking for an hour I had used up all my energy.

I have been recovering for the most part since I got in but even as I write this my left arm is resting on my laptop with only my index finger moving. Hehe. Anyway, the lesson here is to pace yourself. I have been running around so crazy lately that I just need to take a moment to step back.

Well, all that whacking got me thinking about one of my favorite shows. The Family Guy! ^_^ I realized I had a bookmark for a site I go to when I want to watch Family Guy episode online and I wanted to share it with anyone who reads the blog because it is a lot better than a lot of the streaming Family Guy sites.

The site is usually pretty lag free if you are not there during prime times. They have a really good selection of episodes and it is organized very well. When you have hard a hard day and just need to sit back and laugh this is the place to go:

Thanks for checking out Pseudorant! Remember to take it easy and not work to hard. You gotta step back and laugh sometimes… it’s good for you!

Windows Movie Maker Hates My Samsung SC-DX10

Dueling Windows - Yet Again…

I just wanted to post a follow-up from yesterday. I spent most of the day trying to get my video together from the Kubuntu install I did yesterday.

The only problem with doing things the way I have been doing them, is that I am trying to do new things as I learn them, so the learning curve and troubleshooting involved is slowing down my progress.

Last night after working on Kubuntu for awhile I decided to transfer the video from my video camera to my desktop (running Windows XP) so I could edit the video and get it posted to the site. The goal is to eventually do a tutorial video on doing this through Kubuntu but for now I wanted to keep it easy.

Although it’s only really “easy” in the perfect world. When I woke up this morning and tried to import my video into Windows Movie Maker it seemed like it worked until I tried to do anything in the program at which point it would crash.

I tried several things in different programs like Virtual Dub, and tried different codecs etc. Finally I really felt stumped and looked online for some answers to my problems. It turns out I am not the only person with a Samsung SC-DX10 that is having problems trying to edit their video.

I started coming across tons of forum posts and blogs about people asking how to edit their video. They tried all different kinds of codecs, changing settings in FFDShow, editing video file headers, and using different programs all of which would either crash or return error messages.

Now apparently some people out there have other models of these cameras and kept telling people they were doing something wrong because it worked for them. After reading a very long forum post I came to find out that this specific model had a lot of trouble when it comes to editing because of the proprietary AVI format the camera records to.

The final solution that was reached on the forum was to use the Pixela Image Mixer software that comes with the camera to encode the clips to divx so they could be edited. I really didn’t like this answer but for now it seems like the only thing to do.

I tried encoding the file and got a really crappy looking encode from my original file that took forever to export. This just won’t do, so I went back online to try and find another alternative. The best answer I was able to come up with was to use Dr. DivX to output the divx file.

Once again it’s a divx file so it is terrible for editing and really slows my computer down, but it was much better quality than what Pixela offered. So after fighting with formats, software, video clips and codecs all day I am finally almost at a point where I have a working video to upload.

Please keep in mind that this is my first video period, whether it be for YouTube or as a tutorial. I was a little nervous when I was filming it so the first one is kind of rough around the edges. I am hoping as I make more videos that I can do a better job and continue to contribute some interesting stuff that will be of use to people.

Keep an eye out for the video tomorrow. I will try to get it posted to the site soon. For those who did not read my previous two articles the video outlines installing Kubuntu Linux onto my laptop.

Thanks again for checking out Pseudorant and if you have any friends that would be interested in the site please send them my way! I appreciate the support!

Today’s Moment of Zen – The Hardest Level in Mario

Why Do They Do That !?!

Unfortunately I have been swamped today between work and side jobs. At work I am currently working on redesigning our website and after I got out a customer needed me to come do some side work setting up a system for their business which took a few hours.

My fiancée is out of town on a business trip so things are chaotic at home, and I have barely had time to get a bite to eat.

When ever I start feeling overwhelmed like this I like to meditate on things to regain a Zen like composure. With that in mind, I am leaving you with this video to think about. This guy is definitely having a tougher day than I am.

And I thought I had it bad… ;)
