After Years of Hype Too Human Falls Flat with Critics

Too Human Doesn't Deliver on the HypeIt’s a shame when a game that shows a lot of potential doesn’t live up to the expectations that have been created over the years. Too Human is a good example of the game that is fun to play, and shows promise but always seems to leave you with a feeling that there is something fundamentally lacking from the title.

I had a chance to play the Too Human demo a few weeks ago and this was the feeling I was left with. While the game was fun and offered a good mix of action based RPG play it didn’t quiet spur me to jump off the couch and go out to reserve the title.

The game play concepts are solid and in a way are reminiscent of the style of Phantasy Star Online. That seemed like it could sky rocket the game to success when you looked at the popularity of the PSO series.

After checking around for reviews online I am glad that I saved my $60 for beer money, as it seems my initial feelings have been confirmed by several different critics. While everyone will admit that the game is fun, it leaves people wanting more out of the core game play. This is not to say the game is bad, it just doesn’t deliver in the same style befitting the Silicon Knights.

My biggest complaint would be the reported 10 hour playtime which is a shame even for a platform title. With the quality of most current generation games, ten hours is considered “short” at best and is unacceptable for an RPG.

Silicon Knights has reported that this game will be a Trilogy that picks up where the first story left off. Hopefully future releases of the title will address the issues that have kept this game from receiving the praise it deserves.
