Is Your Basement Safe and Dry This Winter
The Importance of a Sump Pump in Your Basement
Brrr. This morning I woke up and there was that winter chill in the house that is so common in Wisconsin. It got me thinking, ok it’s Saturday and I should probably get some of the house work done that I put off doing during the week.
I was digging out the window wells around my basement windows and filling them with crushed rock because last year we had some water seep in when the snow melted. You could tell from looking at the drywall which had water stains.
It got me thinking about another important addition for the basement. A sump pump incase of any flooding now, or next spring. If you watched the news this summer you will know Wisconsin got slammed hard by flooding.
Tons of people had their basements flooded and because of the demand the stores were completely sold out of submersible sump pumps. So it’s always best to plan ahead because once the crisis hits it’s too late.
I was looking online for some good deals on a sump pump and came across a site called The B-Dry System. They seemed to have everything someone would need to keep their basement protected from the potential flooding that can occur after a long winter of 100+ inches of snow. Or a rapid spring where that hundred inches of snow melts in a couple days.
Don’t take the risk. Water in the basement can lead to property damage, home damage, potential for mold, and can affect the health of you and your family. Plan ahead and prepare for common things that can happen. Don’t be caught off guard.
Keep Your Children and Your Family Safe from Offenders
Make Sure You Know the Area You Live In
A friend and I were talking the other day about how happy we are with the neighborhoods we live in. Because I am new to the whole home owner thing I have been amazed at some of the conversations I have had with people that I would never have had before.
While we were talking about good areas to live she mentioned checking the national website for Sex Offenders so you know what type of area is around your neighborhood.
Now her concerns are totally valid. She is a single mother of three kids, and she wants nothing but the best for her children. I mentioned to her that a big part of our decision to move into the neighborhood we live in was with future children in mind.
In addition to being in a good area for education, there are also many other concerns you want to make sure are addressed. I checked the sex offender website to make sure our neighborhood was child friendly and was happy to see that with all the parks and schools accessible to us, that it was.
Remember that sites like this are not setup to humiliate people or invade their privacy. This is about Megan’s Law and the right for you to be able to protect your family, your children, and the people you love from sexual predators.
As a parent there are so many things you can do to safe guard the well being of your children, and this is just one more step to take to keep them healthy and happy, and to give you piece of mind when you let them go outside to play.
