No New MMORPG News a Slow Summer in 2009

Where are All the New MMORPGs for 2009?

As most MMORPG and F2P MMO fans have probably noticed by now, this summer has been pretty slow for MMORPG releases and news.

I like to follow a lot of the current happenings in the MMORPG world, but this summer has left much to be desired in the way of information, news and releases. Overall the summer of 2009 has been pretty slow for MMORPG gamers.

Because of this stagnant pause I have decided to feature some of the best games that are right on the horizon. These are titles that many fans have been looking forward to that are sure to break this tedious cycle as we get closer to the release dates.

Upcoming MMORPGs for Q3 & Q4 of 2009

DC Universe Online
Release: Late 2009

Sony Online’s Austin studio will be creating this game with Jim Lee as the Executive Creative Director and other comic writers. Already the demo version of the game looks really nice and have a lot of major superheroes in the game.

A.P.B
Release: TBA 2009

Like Grand Theft Auto series? Ever wish it can become a MMORPG? Well, developer of GTA David Jones heard your cries. A GTA style MMORPG in real time environment pitting against gangs and police. You as the player must choose to be either the law breakers or law enforcers.

Stargate Worlds
Release: 4th Q, 2009

While the T.V. show is ending the MMORPG will be released to satisfy SG fans. While little information about the game is released they already planning a expansion to it. The game is said to be true to the show and have a fps combat style to it.

Aion
Release: 2009

Another MMORPG by NCsoft creators of the popular Lineage series. Already a hit in South Korea and having plans to bring it to the States. Aion combines player-vs-player and player-vs-environment in a fantasy dream setting.

Star Trek Online
Release:TBA, 2009

If you count the Trekkies out there then you know this is going to sell. Already fans saying this will be the best MMORPG out there. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Star Wars: The Old Republic
Release: TBA 2009

Bioware the creators of Knights of The Old Republic will be developing the newly announced MMO for the Star Wars series. Little information is leaked out, but it was confirmed by IGN that Bioware started developing the game since the finish of KOTOR II.

Aion The Tower of Eternity MMORPG from NCSoft – Beta Preview

New MMORPG Information on Aion The Tower of Eternity

Fans of NCSoft popular MMORPG titles got an exciting treat this weekend when Aion: The Tower of Eternity launched its second Beta preview event.

Initial glimpses of the game revealed an in-depth character creation system that allows players to customize their character down to their physical build, and spacing of facial features.

There are two main races in Aion known as the Asmodians and Elyos. They follow your typical dark vs. light concepts found in many MMORPGs.

From these two races that are a total eight classes to choose from in the game which include warriors, scouts, mages and priests. These classes are then varied by specialized classes which become available to players at higher levels.

Aion has everything you have come to expect from your typical MMORPG including a leveling / skill system, quests and grinding, a detailed and beautiful game world filled with exotic creatures and lore, and much more!

With all the work that has gone into this game it will be interesting to see the finished product when Aion The Tower of Eternity is finally released in stores.

Rumors of a Neverwinter Nights MMORPG from Atari & Cryptic

Details Emerge of a new MMORPG version of Neverwinter Nights

Last week there was an interesting blurb Gamespy about rumors regarding the a new MMORPG from Cryptic Studios based on the extremely successful Neverwinter Nights role playing game.

Cryptic is also currently involved in projects for two other MMORPGs that due out next year, Champions Online and Star Trek Online.

Sources state the primary reason for Atari’s purchase of Cryptic may have been for these projects, with a heavy focus on the Neverwinter Nights MMORPG.

Based on the limited details it sounds as though we will be looking at a 2011 release on this latest MMORPG, and time will tell if this could make or break things for Atari.
