The Perils of Owning a House - My Front Yard
The Only Ones Living Here Should be the Ones Who Have Paid
A friend stopped by the house the other night with her dog, and while we were out playing in the yard I noticed a lot of “movement” in the grass. The dog kept sniffing one area and snorting at it, so finally I went to check out what the deal was.
To my surprise I found a giant ant’s nest right in the middle of my lawn. Now living in Wisconsin this has never been much of a problem, but it always reminds me of growing up in Florida and dealing with terrible fire ant infestations.
The situation drove me to go online to check how we used to get rid of fire ants. While searching Google I came across a site called Control Fireants, which offers a great Fire Ants Guide with different methods for how to control their spread.
As I read the page I came across the link for Amdro, the good old yellow pellets that seem to wipe out any ant problem you have. I went to the hardware store and picked some up for our ants. The wife asked me why I was paying $20 for ant bait, and I told her you’ll see in the morning.
Well as of this morning there was about half as many ants as there were yesterday and I’m guessing by tonight there will be none. I’m really glad I came across Control Fireants because I would have never remembered about Amdro had I not seen it on their website.
They also offer many other great ideas and resources for dealing with a serious fire ant problem. Don’t let ants drive you out of house and home. You’re the one who paid to live there, not them…
