Look no further than Interfacelift.com. I stumbled upon this site awhile back when I was looking for a new background after doing a restore. I was very impressed with the quality of their backgrounds, and the fact that they are all free.

I remember back in the day when Digital Blasphemy used to offer some beautiful free backgrounds, but as time went on it seemed that more and more of what was available through their site was paid content.

Interfacelift now carries the torch for sites that offer free desktop wallpapers. They have a huge selection of backgrounds that all vary in artistic style. It looks like all of their backgrounds are made by artists who contribute their work to the site, and I have yet to find anything that requires you to pay for it.

My favorite thing about their site is that they offer all the backgrounds in about 10-20 different resolutions to support multiple platforms like widescreen monitors, dual & triple displays, standard 4:3 aspects and even iphone, PSP, and mobile devices.
