It’s a great year to be an RPG gamer! Let’s take a look at some of the most anticipated RPG releases for 2012 as well as some of the best titles for the end of 2011. If you can think of any titles we missed please share them below in the comments.
Dark Souls
Dark Souls is a self proclaimed hard ass role playing which brings back the challenge in gaming. Prepare to die… a lot!

Skyrim
The highly anticipated successor to The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Play as the last Dragonborn as you attempt to defeat the Nordic dragon god Alduin who is prophesied to destroy the world.

Torchlight II
The sequel to 2010’s surprisingly fun dungeon crawler that helped fill the void Diablo III has left in our souls. Torchlight II will feature multiplayer for up to 4 characters to join in your adventure.

Mass Effect 3
The third release in the Mass Effect saga. Help Commander Shepard defeat and alien invasion and save the world and the universe yet again in this deep Sci-Fi RPG from Bioware.

Fable: The Journey
The next installment of the Fable series from Lionhead Studios which will utilize the Xbox Kinect. Once again Peter Molyneux sets out to change the way we experience gaming… for better or worse.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
A highly anticipated title from Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword sets out to re-imagine the world of Hyrule and offer players a more in depth and free world experience than previous titles.

Final Fantasy XIII-2
The sequel to Square Enix’s highly successful 2010 release Final Fantasy XIII. Discover what happened after Lightning and her friends saved Cocoon and Gran Pulse from utter destruction.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
An upcoming RPG designed in part by Ken Rolston lead designer of Morrowind, and Oblivion. Encompassing a world created by noted fantasy author R.A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane, Kingdoms of Amalur is poised to be a sleeper hit that takes fans by surprise.

Dragon’s Dogma
Developed by Capcom to be an open world fantasy adventure, Dragon’s Dogma is another in the line of surprisingly polished releases that have been overshadowed by the attention being paid to Skyrim. This detailed fantasy world is sure to offer players of all skill levels an epic adventure.

Diablo III
What is there to say about Diablo III that hasn’t been said in the past 3 years since its original (supposed) release date? From power house game developer Blizzard Entertainment, Diablo III is poised to be one of the biggest RPG releases following Skyrim. In its current state Diablo III appears to be set for a 2012 launch when and if Blizzard decides “it’s ready”…

I also wanted to add The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings since it’s coming out for consoles Q1 of 2012. (Even though it’s been out on PC for awhile.) I like to be a lazy gamer and play on my couch when possible.
