Ultima Online the Immortal MMORPG? Stygian Abyss Expansion

April 30, 2009 · Filed Under MMORPG · Comment

Ultima Online – One of the Longest Running MMORPGs Still Adding Content

You have probably heard of a little game called Ultima Online over the years. That is because it has been around since the late 90’s. Ultima Online created almost a cult following when the game transitioned from its single player RPG into a full fledged MMORPG experience.

Whether it was the mythology of the game, the race and class system, or the unbridled PVP combat aspects that drove players to this title is hard to say. The one undisputed fact is that almost 10 years later players still continue to populate the world of Ultima Online.

To thank players for their support Mythic Entertainment has continued to offer additional content for the game in the way of massive expansions. The latest expansion Stygian Abyss promises to offer many new additions to the game to keep it fresh for long time veterans.

Some of the most noted features of the Stygian Abyss expansion are new dungeons including one of the largest to ever appear in the game. The expansion will also allow players to travel to Ter Mur the Gargoyle homeland, and even play as the Gargoyle Race which has become a large part of the Ultima Online mythology.

Pricing has not been set for the expansion but it has been confirmed that it will be a digital distribution giving fans access to the action from the day of release.

Whether you are an old school veteran of the series, or someone returning after years of absence, the Stygian Abyss is sure to offer many new exciting additions that will allow players to relive the Adventure of Ultima Online.

New F2P MMORPG Free Realms from Sony Online Entertainment

Free Realms a new Free to Play MMO from SOE

If you are like most of the people I talk to on a daily basis you are looking for good free to play (F2P) MMORPGs. I have friends asking me all the time what some of the best F2P MMOs out there are so I am always keeping my eyes out for the latest releases.

Enter Free Realms from Sony Online Entertainment, a free MMORPG designed to appeal to a younger, broader audience than your standard Fantasy MMO.

Created in conjunction with the makers of Everquest, Free Realms aims at creating a unique game play experience that is based around creativity, and fun instead of the standard level based grind.

The game promises to offer an interesting social experience that focuses on interaction with other players. The Free Realms website even offers social profile pages for players to create their own type of MySpace page within the game.

Recently opened into Beta testing for a select 20,000 players Sony is hoping that Free Realms will fill the void that has been left by many pay to play MMORPGs that have fallen by the wayside.

With a new gameplay mechanic and a fresh look on MMOs in general, only time will tell how gamers will receive this new gaming expereince from Sony.
